We've had some crazy weather. The last two days it has been above 60 degrees. That's just nuts for our region. We usually have some snow by now. It's been really, really warm.
We took advantage of the warm weather yesterday and the kids pulled out their bike helmets and glided and tricycled around our cul-de-sac. Our next door neighbors and our backyard neighbors were outside also and it was so nice to see the kids playing together. It's something that I always wanted when we moved into our neighborhood. A safe place for my kids to play with their neighborhood friends. It seems like we got it.
The kids get along fairly well and I'm getting to know my next door neighbor better. I figure with the way the housing market is going, we'll be in this house for the rest of our lives so it's good to make friends with the neighbors.
After experiencing blizzards the last two years I thought I would be over snow. But I gotta tell ya, I wouldn't mind a little of the white stuff. Our Winter doesn't seem complete without one good snowman gracing our yard or a good slide down a sledding hill.
Winter's not over yet, maybe there's still a chance :)

Snow Day!
Yesterday was a snow day. We had a thunder snow the night before and we accumulated about 9 inches of snow. Hubby was out early shoveling the driveway in case I went into labor sometimes yesterday. The kids woke up and he took them outside with him. They had fun playing in the snow while he shoveled. I was oblivious because he totally let me sleep in. It was so nice to get some extra sleep.
When I got up it was time for Buggy to come in. She kept losing her gloves and her little hands were frozen. She joined me inside in the warmth and I made her a mug of hot chocolate. It was a big hit. About an hour later a crying Boogie came in. Poor guy, his little hands hurt so much because of the cold. After a quick trip to the bathroom, shedding his snow clothes, and a mug of hot chocolate with marshmallows, my little guy was quite happy again.
Our neighbor is a great guy and offered the use of his snowblower. He's a very nice guy, but I also think he could hear Boogie's very loud questions about when I was going to the hospital to give birth to Baby J. I think our neighbor was very happy to help however he could.
We had a relaxing afternoon and once again I was able to take advantage of Hubby being home and was able to take another nap. I'm taking advantage of getting a nap whenever I can these days. When I woke up, the boys were out again. The snow plow had come by and finally plowed out our cul-de-sac, but of course dumped snow in front of our driveway. While Hubby shoveled, Boogie played in the snow. They also took time to build a snowman. I was so happy Boogie was able to do this. Even though we had back to back blizzards last year, he never made a snow man. It was actually too much snow to wade through for a 3 (almost 4) year old.
We had a relaxing dinner of grilled cheese and soup, perfect for a cold winter day. I was happy to have my family home and to enjoy some time with them before we become a family of 5 :)

I love the look on Boogie's face of finally making a snowman. Something he's talked about since the last big snowstorm, a year ago. |

Snow Day
Yesterday it snowed. When I was working I used to make sure I brought home all the papers that needed to be graded and materials I needed to lesson plan. I would spend snowy days grading, planning, and playing catch up, even though I had a ton to do around the house. When there was a 2-hour delay I would still go to work on time to enjoy the quiet of the building and get more done.
After having Boogie, my priorities changed and I felt that it was time to enjoy a snow day with my little man and I appreciated having him. But I worried about the things that were undone at work. Now I think snow days are meant to relax, enjoy the ones you're with, have a mug of hot chocolate, and maybe play in the snow. I wish I did a lot more of that when I was working.
Maybe I'm not so different as I was in my early days of my career. I use snow days as a reason to stay in, but I'm usually baking, Christmas shopping online, writing out Christmas cards, or doing some sort of Christmas catch-up. But I enjoy doing those things so it's not that bad.
Yesterday I attempted to take Boogie to his afternoon preschool and chickened out after I saw an accident on the road. I ended up turning around and heading back home. The roads were bad, everyone was going 20mph, and it was still snowing. It would still be snowing when I picked him up 2 1/2 hours later so I decided to bag it and head home. Boogs was a little disappointed, but he got over it pretty quickly. He played in the snow for a little bit and enjoyed that. I decided to finish sending out my Christmas cards. The kids listened to a book on CD and played with each other. It was a really nice afternoon. One of the benefits of having more than one kid is that the kids will play with each other. As I addressed envelopes I kept an eye on the kids and watched them play (gently) with our ceramic nativity set and talk about Jesus' birth and the wise men, build tunnels using couch cushions and pillows, build with blocks, look at books, and entertain each other. Even though I wasn't an active participant in their games, I was happy to be an observer into their little world.
It was a good snow day. While I'm not done addressing my Christmas cards and I still have a few projects I'd like to finish, I enjoyed the day watching my kids play together and thinking about how a third child will only add to the blessings we already have.
